These roles pay you to speak. A posting names a language (Mandarin, German, Italian, Portuguese, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Dutch, Korean and Japanese have all been listed) and you record prompts, scripted lines or natural speech to a stated standard, usually with a phone or a plain microphone. Some are bilingual pairs, where you record in your own language and in English. The requirements listed are proficiency, clear pronunciation and patience; a couple of postings mention phonetics. What is checked is the recording itself: background noise, clipping, whether you read what was on the card, whether the file is named the way the brief said. Rejected audio usually has to be redone rather than edited, so following the instruction precisely is most of the skill. This is distinct from transcription, where you type what you hear. Remote contract work, paid hourly at whatever the posting lists.
