What the work is

Role overview

Mercor is hiring experienced mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and commissioning engineers to review and strengthen complex engineering tasks set in mission-critical data-center environments. This is a technical peer-review role: you will assess realistic design and field scenarios, repair gaps in task materials, and confirm that the expected outputs and grading methods reflect professional engineering practice.

What you will do

  • Review long-horizon tasks involving data-center cooling, hydronic and process-water systems, coolant distribution units, heat exchangers, HVAC and equipment integration, electrical systems, building controls, and commissioning

  • Check engineering assumptions, calculations, code and standards use, equipment data, operating sequences, redundancy, and constructability

  • Identify ambiguity, conflicting source documents, missing constraints, or unrealistic deliverables

  • Improve task prompts, supporting artifacts, acceptance criteria, rubrics, and programmatic checks

  • Produce clear technical findings and validate corrected tasks end to end

Who we are looking for

  • Typically 2+ years of experience in data-center or other mission-critical MEP design, controls, commissioning, or operations

  • Relevant roles include Senior or Lead Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Plumbing or Process Engineer, Controls or BAS Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, MEP Design Manager, or Technical Director

  • Strong command of data-center systems and relevant codes and standards; PE or a recognized commissioning credential is preferred

  • Experience at a leading multidisciplinary, mission-critical, or consulting engineering firm is strongly preferred

  • Able to interpret large document sets, drawings, schedules, calculations, equipment submittals, and machine-readable data

  • Precise, detail-oriented, and able to explain technical issues clearly in writing

Details

  • Approximately 5–10 hours per week initially

  • Immediate start

  • Compensation: $80–$130 per hour, based on experience and role fit
